Apache closes ECP Damns Java as 'Oracle-Proprietary' (java.sys - con.com)

ASF format (disgusted Apache Software Foundation) resigned his seat on the Committee Executive SE/EEC of Java (EC) after failing to encourage the rest of the Commission for spitting in the eye of Oracle and keep the spec Java SE7 hostage until that Oracle capitulated and gave a Harmony project TCK license open source Apache for Java SE.

Instead of a mutiny, the European Commission endorsed shyly specifications for Oracle submitted last week. Only Apache and Google, who had a vested interest Harmony, voted against.

As a result, Apache is pulling its people to all JSRs and said "will refuse any renewal of our JCP members and of course, our EC position."

He says the vote "was the last chance for the community JCP demonstrate that the it has any intention to defend the JCP as a process of open specification" and approving Java SE 7 "members of the European Commission has refused to defend the rights of the implementers and accepting the terms of Oracle Java TCK license SE 7, they left the integrity of PCE licensing structure be broken."

"Apache Software Foundation finds that this plan is not a process of open specification - Java specifications are a proprietary technology that must be licensed directly from the spec pursuant to head what lead spec chooses;" that the commercial interests of a single entity, Oracle will continue to seriously hamper and distort transparent governance of the ecosystem; that it is impossible to distribute independent implementations of JSRs under license open source such that users are protected intellectual property by members of the Group of experts or the spec lead litigation; and finally, the Commission refuses or is unable to assert the fundamental power of their role in the governance of the JCP process. See http://blogs.apache.org/foundation/date/20101209.

Oracle has published a counter-statement signature VP Adam Messinger development saying: "Apache voted against the launch of the work of the Technical Committee on 7 SE and SE 8 vote effectively advance java." Today, despite the support of the technical direction, Apache have announced they are to stop smoking to the Executive Committee. Oracle is responsible for advancing Java and maintain consistency of the Java standard for millions of Java developers, and the majority of members of the Executive Committee agreed. We encourage Apache to reconsider its position and remain a part of the java process forward. ASF source within the many open projects are an important part of the entire Java ecosystem. »
