Oracle to launch MySQL 5.5 GA release (Computerworld)

IDG News Service - Oracle is planned for the launch of the general availability of MySQL 5.5 version when an event of webcast on Wednesday.

The event will be moderated by Tomas Ulin, Vice-President of MySQL development and senior MySQL update participants on the latest developments of the database product manager Rob Young open source.

Oracle announced a version for the candidate of 5.5 OpenWorld Conference in September. MySQL 5.5 will deliver significant improvements in usability, reliability and performance, Oracle said at the time.

Benchmarking tests showed the release candidate win up to 1500% earnings performance for read operations / writing and up to 500% on read-only when it is running on Windows, in contrast to MySQL 5.1 operations. Linux performance increased up to 360 for read / write and 200% for read-only, according to Oracle.

Oracle also plans to host a Webinar on the roadmap for InnoDB, a popular MySQL storage engine plans Tuesday.

While Oracle is committed to improve MySQL since the acquisition by purchase of Sun Microsystems, its recent decision to raise the cost of a low-end support subscription rankled some users.

Oracle has defended his move, saying customers will receive much more than just to supply low range of Sun support.

MySQL customers who wish to support have a growing number of providers of alternative to tap, including Monty program and the SkySQL has just been launched.
